Love Ocean Animals? Support Our Animal Care Center

We're expanding our Animal Care Center to better meet the needs of ocean animals at the Aquarium and in the wild.

Look into a mysterious, mesmerizing world where life looms large.

You'll see giant tuna power their way through the water, while pelagic rays and green sea turtles swim just inches away.

The stunning one-million-gallon Open Sea exhibit is home to one of the most diverse communities of open-ocean animals to be found in any aquarium.

See Sardines Swirl and Sparkle

We recently added 5,000 new Pacific sardines to our Open Sea exhibit! Like synchronized swimmers, sardines in a school move together as one. When predators come near, there's safety in numbers for these small fish.

Flippers, Not Fingers

New research from our team documents sea turtles using their flippers to manipulate food. We expect this behavior from animals like otters, who learn it from their mothers. But a sea turtle never meets its mother—it figures out how to use its flippers on its own.

Revealing Tuna Secrets

Our Tuna Research and Conservation Center, a partnership with Stanford University, is achieving unprecedented insight into the lives of bluefin tuna.
