Our energetic and inquisitive African penguins are visitor favorites.
We feed the African penguins in our Splash Zone exhibit multiple times a day, sometimes by hand to make sure they get their daily vitamin, and sometimes by tossing food into the water to stimulate foraging behavior. Watch for underwater acrobatics as the penguins dart and dive to catch their fish.
Have some bubbly this New Year's! Celebrate the arrival of 2019 with a sparkling cider toast, sundae bar, photo booth, pajama dance party and more! Plus, small bites and beverages will be available for purchase, including beer, wine and kid-friendly drinks.
Bixby, the penguin chick that hatched at the Aquarium on July 7, has learned to swim and now rejoins the rest of the penguin colony on exhibit in Splash Zone. You can spot her—and fellow chicks Monty and Poppy—by their sleek and silver juvenile plumage.
The Aquarium's curator of birds journeyed to South Africa to help rescue and rehabilitate endangered African penguins in their native habitat. Though she's worked with our Splash Zone colony for over a decade, this was the first time she'd seen our penguins' wild kin.
Our standards-based curriculum has been developed to provide educators with easy-to-use, Aquarium-centered science activities for the classroom.
