Love Penguins? Support Our Animal Care Center

See how our team stepped in when Amigo had difficulty hatching—and help us expand our Animal Care Center!

Our energetic and inquisitive African penguins are visitor favorites.

We feed the African penguins in our Splash Zone exhibit multiple times a day, sometimes by hand to make sure they get their daily vitamin, and sometimes by tossing food into the water to stimulate foraging behavior. Watch for underwater acrobatics as the penguins dart and dive to catch their fish.

Don't Miss

A Bigger Bixby!

Bixby, the penguin chick that hatched at the Aquarium on July 7, is growing up fast. She's behind the scenes until she learns to swim, but she's beginning to explore the water. We're also slowly introducing her to the rest of the penguin colony—including fellow chicks Monty and Poppy.

The Mantis Shrimp Has Eyes for You...and You!

The mantis shrimp can control each eye independently—and has depth perception in each eye, too—thanks to its massive array of color receptors divided into three bands. You can gaze back at our mantis shrimp in the coral crawl-through space in our Splash Zone exhibit on your next visit!

Adorable and Endangered

The Aquarium's curator of birds journeyed to South Africa to help rescue and rehabilitate endangered African penguins in their native habitat. Though she's worked with our Splash Zone colony for over a decade, this was the first time she'd seen our penguins' wild kin.
